NEW YORK — Police say former college star basketball player Thomas Emma plunged from the 12th floor of the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan to his death in an apparent suicide.
Police say Emma’s body was found at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on a second-floor landing of the building on Central Park South.
Emma was a Duke University basketball team captain in 1983 and was drafted by the Chicago Bulls, but never played in the NBA, according to the league’s web site.
He was also a high school star in Manhasset, on Long Island, and wrote a book titled “Basketball Player’s Comprehensive Guide to Strength Training.”
He was president of Power Performance, Inc., a company devoted to training young athletes.
The New York City medical examiner will determine the cause of his death.
